Food Replacement 3: Dairy Products with Soys Products.

Why Soya? Soya is considered the best choice as it is low in saturated fats, cholesterol free and is an excellent source of high quality protein. Soya mince (or known as textured vegetable protein) can easily replace the texture and bulk of meat.

A very good food replacement of milk will be Soya Milk, a beverage made from soybeans. It is produced by soaking dry soybeans and grinding them with water. Soya milk with the same amount of protein but less saturated fat is suitable for all especially lactose intolerance people.

Another good food replacement is Tofu. It is made in a a process similar to cheese making but from soya milk. This is a very good source of protein, calcium and best thing is that it is low fat. Since it is able to take on flavours pretty well, it is great stir–fries, salads and anything savoury.

Food replacement for meat is Soya Mince (or known as textured vegetable protein). It is made from defatted soya flour which has been processed and dried to give a substance with a sponge-like texture which may be flavoured to resemble meat.

A simple recipe: Bolognese Sauce using Soya Mince

Ingredients:
1 Tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cloves of garlic, crushed
50g dried soya mince
1 red pepper, finely chopped
2 Teaspoons mixed dried herbs
2 Teaspoons sugar
2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
Pepper to taste
2 x 400g tins of chopped tomatoes or 10-12 fresh tomatoes chopped

How to Prepare:
Soak dried soya mince in boiling water for 5 minutes, or according to packet instructions, then drain.
Heat the oil in the frying pan on medium heat, fry onions, garlic and soya mince for 5 minutes or until soft.
Add mixed herbs, sugar, vinegar, and pepper to the mince mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Add the chopped tomatoes* and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
Taste and adjust the flavour as necessary with extra herbs and seasoning.

* to cook another 10-15 minutes if using fresh tomatoes.

Served 4-5 persons.

Food Replacement using soya products is the healthiest choice you can ever make. Enjoy your time trying and replacing dairy products with soya products.

Food Replacement 2: White Rice with Brown Rice.

What is the difference between White Rice and Brown Rice? In a nutshell, Brown Rice after processing and milling become White Rice. Just from this sentence, we know that eating Brown Rice is the best.

Brown Rice with the bran intact, has more fiber and contains more nutrients like magnesium, manganese, and zinc than White Rice. White Rice just has a fluffy texture but Brown Rice has a nutty flavour and chewy texture so it is a tastier and better way of getting fiber into your diet.

As Brown Rice takes a little longer to cook than White Rice, hence, please increase the amount of water slightly to avoid getting burnt Brown Rice. Alternatively, you can pre-soak the Brown Rice for 2-4 hours and use the absorption cooking method. Cover the pot, leaving very little excess water left by the time the rice has been cooked – the steam generated using this method also helps speed up the cooking process.

A simple recipe: Brown Rice With Veggies

Ingredients:
1 cup rice
2 Tablespoons olive oil (or any cold-pressed vegetable oil)
2 cups water
1/2 cup carrots, diced
1/2 cup fresh celery, chopped

To Blend into liquid form:
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1 cloves garlic, chopped
1 Tablespoon fresh ginger, chopped
soy sauce to taste
1 cup celery, chopped

How to Prepare:
Fry Brown Rice briefly in the oil for 2-3 minutes.
To the fried Brown Rice, add the water and the blended ingredients and cook covered 30 minutes over a low flame.
After 30 minutes add the carrots and the rest of the celery.
Cook 10 minutes more, covered.
Let it stand for five minutes before serving.

Served 4-5 persons.

Have fun using this Food Replacement Recipe.

Food replacements? What is it about? It is not able eating meal replacements pack in lieu of a proper meal. It is about replacing a staple food in your diet for a healthier choice.

Food Replacements Choice 1: Replace Potato with Yam (also known as Taro). Why? The benefits of Yam versus potato is abundant. Potato only contains more carbo and lesser benefits.

The best benefit of Yam is that it has an alkaloid compound called Dioscoretine which is able to lower the blood sugar levels in the body. Yam is also said to contain free-radical-fighting antioxidant properties and may help raise HDL cholesterol (the good).

Other benefits of Yam is that it can help to reduce inflammation as it contains anti-inflammatory properties. It is widely known that Yam extract has been used to help reduce the pain of rheumatoid arthritis and other conditions. Substances in yam may help to regulate the body’s metabolism and aid digestive system especially if you have irritable bowel syndrome. Further more, if you experience monthly menstrual cramps and tense muscles, try including Yam in your diet. Yam is said to be able to relax muscles and relieve menstrual cramps.

Try the above food replacements and start living a healthier life.
